Meet Angela.
She’s organized and prepared for anything.
Classroom is always neat and clean. Papers always graded and returned the next day. So when she felt a sharp pain in her throat one night, Angela didn’t let it stop her from preparing for class the next morning. But the pain didn’t go away and it became harder for her to breath. She called 9-1-1 and was brought to BryanLGH.
Cardiologists at the BryanLGH Heart Institute quickly discovered three blocked arteries leading to her heart. They implanted stents to eliminate the blockage and improve critical blood flow. Soon after, Angela was back in the classroom and feeling better than ever.
Like Angela, many women aren’t aware that the signs of stroke can be different for women. If you experience any of the following, please call 9-1-1 immediately:
- Weakness in the face, arm or leg (generally affects one side of the body)
- Struggle with speaking or understanding others
- Trouble seeing—in one or both eyes
- Difficulty walking, dizziness or loss of balance or coordination
- Severe headache with no known cause
