Inpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation

Inpatient cardiac rehabilitation begins immediately as part of the recovery process for those still in the hospital following a myocardial infarction (heart attack), coronary artery bypass surgery, balloon angioplasty, stenting or heart transplant. Our goal is to provide a coordinated program that will help you and your family early in the recovery process. We focus on:

  • Medical and nursing care
  • Physical activity
  • Education and emotional issues

We make every effort to connect you with our outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program before your discharge so that you continue your rehabilitation and recovery. The ultimate goal is to ensure a permanent lifestyle change, so that you do not have another heart problem.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is proven to improve quality of life and to reduce further heart attacks and complications. Cardiac rehabilitation can be started after hospitalization for heart attack, open heart surgery, stent placement, angina, heart transplant and heart/lung transplant.

Cardiac rehabilitation helps:

  • Reduce cardiac risk factors, such as increased weight, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoking
  • Control symptoms of heart disease
  • You to be more active
  • Improve your quality of life
  • You return to your usual activities, including work

A cardiac rehabilitation program includes:

  • Careful medical evaluation of your current health
  • A monitored exercise program of aerobic and resistance training exercises
  • Education and programs to reduce your risk factors for heart problems
  • Stress management programs and counseling for depression
  • Nutritional counseling

Anticoagulation Clinic

Our anticoagulation clinic, located at Pine Lake Medical Plaza, 39th and Pine Lake Road, is a great support for those who must take blood-thinning medicine such as Warfarin (Coumadin) or Lovenox. The clinic provides skills and knowledge to better manage anticoagulant therapy. One-on-one education is provided at each appointment, and a follow-up visit is scheduled before you leave the clinic.

The anticoagulation clinic appointment does not substitute for a physician office visit, but is another method of addressing health concerns and preventing complications for those taking anticoagulants.

Clinic hours are 8 a.m.-Noon, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and Noon-4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday. Physician-ordered appointments can be made by calling the Scheduling Center at 402-481-5121, or the Anticoagulation Clinic at 402-481-6303.
