Patient/Family Services

From room options to entertainment, the staff at BryanLGH will help patients and guests feel at home:

Patient Rooms:

We will make every effort to honor your choice for a private or semi-private room unless your condition, doctor's orders or bed availability require a change. When construction is complete, all rooms at BryanLGH will be private.

Mail Delivery:

If you receive mail during your stay, volunteers at the medical center will deliver it to your patient room (Monday-Saturday morning). After your dismissal, we will forward your mail to your home.

Motel Discounts:

Several motels in Lincoln offer discounted rates to all hospital patients and visitors. We encourage you to take advantage of these options. To get the discounted rate, be sure to identify yourself as being associated with a patient currently receiving service at BryanLGH Medical Center.

Newspapers:

Newspapers such as the Lincoln Journal Star, Omaha World-Herald and USA Today may be purchased from the machines located on the first floor. To find out if a newspaper is delivered to your area, please ask a nurse.

Telephones:

Family members and friends can call directly to the telephone in your room from outside the medical center:

BryanLGH West Patients

  • Dial 4-8-1-9 Plus the Room Numbers

BryanLGH East Patients

  • Dial 4-8-1 Plus the Bed Number (1 or 2) and the Room Number (Example: Room 600, Bed 1—Dial 481-1600)

Outside Calls

  • Dial 9 Followed by the Local Phone Number (To contact a hospital operator, dial 0.)

Long Distance Calls

  • BryanLGH East: Dial 7-9-0 and an Operator will Assist You
  • BryanLGH West: Dial 9-1 and the 800 or 888 Number on Your Calling Card. Note: You can bill long distance calls to your credit card or home phone number.

Flowers:

As flowers and plants arrive, our volunteers deliver them to patients’ rooms. Flower deliveries for patients in the intensive care units are left at the nurses' station on each unit.

Activity Room:

The Activity Room is open 24 hours and contains items for patients and families to check out for their personal use. All items in the Activity Room are free to use and have been selected to help patients relax. Items available include coloring books and crayons, games, paperback books, playing cards, puzzles and toys. CD players and CDs, and DVD players and DVDs are available by calling Volunteer Resources at 402-481-3032.

Business Center:

The Business Center provides an office environment for patients and family members who need to conduct business while at the medical center. Some of the services available are: copy machine, facsimile machine, telephone, analog line for laptop hook up and a personal computer. Interpreter Services:

BryanLGH Medical Center provides interpreter services for patients and their families during all hours. Sign language and interpreters in the patient's preferred language are available at no cost. Patients with vision impairments can be assisted with information read to them or with formats such as larger print, taped information and Braille. Hearing assistance devices and TDDs are also available. Patients may choose a family member or a friend to interpret, but the medical center discourages asking very young children to interpret. Ask your nurse for help in obtaining any of these services.

Notary Public:

Notaries are available from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in administration located on the first floor.

Pastoral Care:

Chaplains are a part of our care team, available 24 hours a day. The chapels, located on the first floor at both East and West locations, are always open for prayer, meditation and reflection.

Ethics Committee:

The Ethics Committee is available to help patients and families as they deal with difficult decisions regarding treatment. There is no charge for this service. You can ask for a consultation by calling the Center for Bioethics, 401-481-5130, or call the medical center operator and ask to speak with the administrative supervisor.

    Take-Home Prescriptions:

    Pharmacists are available weekdays before 4 p.m. to provide bedside medication counseling. Keep in mind that if you are covered under a prescription plan, you will need to have your medications filled at your local pharmacy or a pharmacy designated by the plan. Let your nurse know that you wish to have a written prescription to take with you or phoned to the pharmacy of your choice.

    Care Management and Discharge Planning:

    Department staff members are available to help you with any needs you have as a result of your illness and/or hospital stay, including helping you plan and make arrangements for a variety of support services. Staff can also help you arrange any type of care you may need when you leave the medical center. To contact the department, call 402-481-8941, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. After these hours you may contact the hospital operator and ask them to page a social worker.
