Fertility & Childbirth

Welcoming a new member into your family is a wonderful, life-changing event. We’re here to help you and your family prepare, not only for the birth but also for life after baby. Childbirth Unit Tour

(free)

Expectant parents are welcome to visit our childbirth unit, including labor and delivery rooms, post partum and the nurseries. Our registered nurses, who are certified lactation consultants, will be your hosts; no registration is necessary. To join us, just meet in the main lobby of BryanLGH Medical Center East, 1600 S. 48th St.

Tours are given Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m.

Prepared Childbirth Education

($65 per 4-week session)

This four-week class is for first-time expectant parents. Emphasis is placed on making childbirth a positive experience and to allow you to take an active role in your birth experience and in your care at the medical center.

Classes are usually recommended during the sixth to seventh month of pregnancy.

Class is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Sundays from 7-9:30 p.m.

Accelerated Childbirth Education

($70)

This two-week class is for first-time expectant parents who want a faster-paced class or are unable to attend a weekday evening class. The class content is the same as the four-week series.

Class is offered on Saturdays from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Breastfeeding Basics

($20)

This single session class emphasizes basic breastfeeding techniques. BryanLGH lactation consultants will address the breastfeeding cycle, nursing aids, nursing positions, latch and more. Your spouse/partner is encouraged to attend.

Class is offered on Thursdays from 7-9:15 p.m.

Baby Cares

($40)

This three-week series of classes is for expectant parents or parents with a newborn. Emphasis is placed on the basics of baby care – bathing, feeding, signs of illness, how to take baby’s temperature and home safety. Infant growth and development and adjustment to family life are also discussed.

Class is offered on Thursdays from 7-9 p.m.

Super Sibling

($10 per family)

A baby is coming! For mom and dad, it’s a happy event. Big brother and sister, however, may view this new arrival with questionable enthusiasm or feelings of loss. But siblings at BryanLGH Medical Center won't feel left out because this class includes them in the birth process.

Class is held on Sundays from 1-2 p.m.

Baby Signs Parent Workshop
Talk with Your Baby Before Your Baby Can Talk

($55 a couple - includes a book, two educational DVDs and a quick reference chart)

Do you ever wonder what your baby is thinking? Or why your baby is crying? Join Tracy Ostrander, independent certified Baby Signs instructor, and learn simple, easy-to-do gestures or “signs” to help you and your baby talk to each other. You’ll learn the benefits of signing, how to teach your baby and easy ways to use signing in your daily routines. Two decades of research have proven that using the Baby Signs Program reduces frustration and builds trust, allows babies to share their worlds, strengthens the parent/infant bond and promotes positive emotional intellectual development. This class is specially designed for parents of children from six to 24 months. Early childhood educators, parent educators, social workers and health specialists are also welcome.

CPR for Family and Friends

($20 per person)

For parents and expectant parents. This course teaches infant/pediatric/adult CPR with emphasis on infant and airway obstruction relief. Time needed to cover course content may vary based on class size.

Single session class is offered on various dates and times.
